Diversitas organizer and University of Akron Professor Barry Mulholland was featured alongside other prestigious financial professionals in an article by Joanne Cleaver in InvestmentNews discussing how and why women are making a career switch into the financial advisory profession.
Mulholland’s comments acknowledged that the advisory profession and the industry have failed to fill talent and gender gaps.
“Nobody’s talking yet about the fact that for midcareer women, this is a great opportunity,“ says Dr. Mulholland
Diversitas is just starting to expand its outreach from its initial target of high school and college students to midlife career changers, who currently make up only about 10% of its attendees, he said.
The article shares women’s stories about making the career switch and cites data from related reports and surveys. Many of the women considering starting in financial planning are therapists, teachers, and the like, looking to continue to help others but have more control over their schedules.
