BUILDING CAREERS IN WEALTH MANAGEMENT – ADVISORY CAREERS

During this free and informative Forum, you will hear from an expert panel representing various career opportunities in the Advisory segment of the financial planning industry as described using The 12 Tribes of Financial Planning model. 
 

This panel will look at careers in the RIA, accounting/tax RIA, financial counseling, government, academia, or research areas of the industry. If you are interested in a career in one of these fields, or if you’re interested in learning more about the different available career paths, you won’t want to miss this!

Dr. Luke Dean, Professor at Utah Valley University, and co-author of the 12 Tribes of Financial Planning Model

Luke Dean is proud to be from Orem, UT. He received a Bachelors and Masters degree from BYU and then received his PhD from Texas Tech University. He is married (Angela) and has 5 healthy, hyperactive children. He was named to InvestmentNews inaugural list of the 40 most influential people under the age of 40 in the financial planning profession.

Chuck Mischley, Director, Talent Acquisition, Nationwide Insurance

As Director, Talent Acquisition, Chuck is responsible for recruiting, leadership, strategies, and directives as it relates to Nationwide’s corporate functions that include Human Resources, Finance, Internal Audit, Marketing, the Customer Office, and Nationwide’s financial services arm Nationwide Financial.  Chuck was also the previous leader for the University Relations/Recruiting department.

Prior to Nationwide, Chuck spent five years in the recruiting field in various sectors.  He began his recruiting career with Maxim Healthcare Services in Cleveland, Ohio and went on to run their Detroit operations.  Following Maxim, Chuck spent time recruiting sales professionals for various companies across the country and was a Recruiting Manager with Robert Half in their Finance/Accounting department before joining Nationwide.    

Chuck has partnered with the Ohio Insurance Industry Advisory Board on their strategic strategies/partnerships with Ohio colleges and has been quoted in various Columbus periodicals, the Wall Street Journal and Diversity/Careers on the job market and university recruiting strategies.  He has also been the United Way Lead for the HR organization at Nationwide with focus on participation strategies in 2008 and 2009 and served in other capacities the prior two years.  Chuck obtained his Certified Internet Recruiter and Certified Diversity Recruiter certificates from AIRS in 2006 and holds an undergraduate degree in Telecommunications Administrative Management/Business Administration from Ohio University.

Emily Platt, CFP, Assistant Vice President, Investments, with Wealthspire

Emily Platt is an Assistant Vice President of Investments at Wealthspire Advisors, supporting the firm’s Chief Market Strategist. She brings her client service experience and incorporates that into her research and recommendations on asset allocation, manager research and due diligence with a focus on impact investing. Emily graduated from James Madison University with a degree in Finance. She also holds a certificate in financial planning from Georgetown University, a Certificate in ESG Investing from the CFA Institute and is a Certified Financial Planner practitioner.

Kate Mielitz, PhD, AFC®, Special Programs Manager, Association for Financial Counseling & Planning Education® (AFCPE®)

Kate Mielitz, Ph.D., is an Accredited Financial Counselor® (AFC®) with extensive experience providing financial counseling and education for justice-involved populations in addition to authoring six peer-reviewed publications on that topic. She has provided financial counseling and education services for over 10 years to United State soldiers and their families, the general public, recovering substance abusers, families experiencing homelessness, and college students. Dr. Mielitz has a 20+ year background in financial counseling and education, bankruptcy, fraud, and collections. She obtained her Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning from Kansas State University. Dr. Mielitz recently transitioned out of academia to help expand access for students and professionals to the AFC® credential and the financial services field at large. Her passions include learning, pursuing her Certified Diversity Professional (CDP®) designation, and helping people have stronger, client-centric personal finance discussions.
