Lazetta Rainey Braxton, founder and CEO of Lazetta & Associates and Co-CEO of 2050 Wealth Partners, recently wrote an article about… Beyoncé? Yes, you read that right! Braxton’s Wealth Management article analogizes Beyoncé’s hit new song “Break My Soul” to workplace professionals, specifically in wealth management. Braxton quoted the song multiple times and aimed at industry leaders, asking them to consider if the workplace culture they created has their employees reciting–literally or figuratively–the liberating tune.

Braxton mentioned that as a Black, Gen X business owner, she relates to Beyoncé’s song and can dance along with it in celebration of her “release from work environments” that she “allowed to tarnish” her soul. She rounded off her article by emphasizing that her team members deserve compassion and care, two ideas that are iterated so meaningfully in the song.

The article highlights the importance of diversity in wealth management and encourages industry leaders to take a step back and analyze if they’re doing everything they can to create an empowering workplace and to invest in “the most important asset” a firm has: its people.
